The buildings are a mix of historic and modern, with a gentle sense of heritage from the Sisters of Compassion who have been there for more than a century. It is quiet, welcoming and tucked slightly away from the busy city, with a strong feeling of care, hospitality and wairua in the air.

Rachel’s Vineyard offers a safe, confidential, and supportive place for anyone who has been affected by abortion. The retreat is designed to gently walk with you through the journey of healing, helping you find peace, hope, and restoration. Whether your experience is recent or many years ago, you will be welcomed with compassion and care.
Retreat Structure and Setting
The retreat usually takes place over a weekend, beginning Friday evening and finishing Sunday afternoon. It is held in a private, peaceful setting that allows space for rest and reflection. Through talks, group sessions, personal reflection, and supportive activities, participants are guided at their own pace. You will not be asked to share anything you are not comfortable sharing. Everything is held in strict confidence, with respect for your story and your faith journey.
Practical Details
Meals and accommodation are provided, and the environment is designed to be nurturing and restful. There is no fee for attending, as the retreat is offered as a gift, though donations are welcome to help us continue the work. Each retreat is led by a trained team, often including counsellors, clergy, and others who have walked the journey themselves. Transport options or carpooling may also be available if you need assistance getting to the retreat centre.
